Playing Leander Cephas Whitlock, a lawyer with “mutton chops” was a different role for me as a film actor. Dressing in those 1920s costumes reminded me of my theatre roles – putting glue on my face to keep the sideburns from falling off and speaking with a clipped American accent. Leander, though, like most Boardwalk Empire characters, was not averse to breaking some rules of society. However, unlike Nucky, he got away with it. Villains come in many costumes and so do saints – that’s life.
